Noosa Clinics
The first step in the Speech Pathology process is the assessment appointment. At this appointment the speech pathologist will collect information about your child’s communication, from you, through observing your child at play, and by administering a series of tests.
The assessment appointment takes between 1 and 1 ½ hours, depending on the age of your child. All of our Speech Pathologists have extensive experience working with children, so we are almost always able to entice even the most reluctant of talkers to participate!
A professional report is written based on the findings of the assessment, and additional copies are provided for teachers, doctors or other health professionals if required.
Following the assessment appointment, it is likely that your child will attend a series of therapy sessions. These appointments are usually once a week for ½ an hour, however some children attend less regularly.
Sessions are designed specifically for your child’s area of difficulty and are planned to ensure your child achieves success, feels confident and has fun.
A scrap book is provided to your child at their first speech session. All work completed during a session is stuck in this book and a written explanation provided so you can revise their work at home between sessions.
Your child will make the maximum progress if work can be revised and completed between speech sessions. We recommend five minutes practice a day.
Our School Based Services
Noosa District Speech Pathology provides private speech pathology services to a number of independent schools on the Sunshine Coast.
We have found this to be an effective way to deliver services to students requiring speech pathology intervention, and it has the benefit of allowing consultation with your child’s teachers, and if appropriate the learning support team in the school.
We regularly visit:
- Good Shepherd Lutheran College (Noosaville)
- St Andrew’s Anglican College (Peregian Springs)
- St Joseph’s (Nambour)
- Noosa Christian College (Cooroy)
- Good Samaritan Catholic College (Bli Bli)
- Peregian Beach College More (Peregian Beach)
- St Thomas More (Noosa)
- Pacific Lutheran College (Meredian Plains)
Parents are very welcome to attend all or some of their child’s speech sessions!

We find that students look forward to their weekly speech session, and feel positive about attending. Your child’s teacher is consulted as to the best time to withdraw your child from class for their session – we ensure that your child is not missing out on special activities they particularly enjoy or activities which will affect their classroom progress.
A scrap book is provided to your child at their first speech session. All work completed during a session is stuck in this book and a written explanation provided so you can revise their work at home between sessions. This book also serves as a communication book where messages can be written between parents and the speech pathologist.
Your child will make the maximum progress if work can be revised and completed between speech sessions. We recommend five minutes practice a day and always take into consideration other school homework.
At the end of each semester a progress report is written and sent to you. A copy is also provided to your child’s teacher and learning support (if appropriate). This report summarises your child’s progress during the past semester and makes recommendations for the following semester.
You are welcome to call your child’s Speech Pathologist at any time during the semester and, again, we encourage you to attend your child’s session if you would like to.
